… and we’ll be adding more classes and camps all the time!

The Culinary Center of Kansas City is proud to offer a number of Children’s Summer Camps and Classes this year. Our classes are interactive and fun hands-on education in the culinary arts taught  by seasoned professionals. All camps and classes take place in our state-of-the-art, fully-equipped kitchens. Below is a list of the camps and classes that are currently offered. Be sure to check back, as we will be adding more classes throughout the summer!

2022 Junior Chefs (9-14) Summer Cooking Camps

3-Day Cooking Camp: Cooking Essentials
Tues. May 31 – Thurs. June 2  OR  Wed. July 6 – Fri. July 8
10:00AM – 2:00PM

Specifically designed for budding Junior Chefs (Ages 9-14), this interactive series is taught by Executive Chef Richard McPeake, a Culinary Institute of America graduate and seasoned culinary instructor. Kids will learn basic knife skills, the proper way to cook meats & poultry, how to create fresh pasta, sauce-making techniques and many more skills and techniques that will set them up for a lifetime of great meals.

3-Day Cooking Camp: Pastry Arts Camp
Tues. June 7 – Thurs. June 9
10:00AM – 1:00PM

Junior Chefs interested in exploring the sweet world of pastry arts will learn tips and secrets from Natasha Goellner, an experienced ‘real deal’ Pastry Chef. Student will learn kitchen basics like mixing and measuring, then get their hands in the action to whip up pies, cupcakes, cookies and even homemade ice cream and interesting dessert sauces and crunchy toppings!  

3-Day CAMP CHOP CHOP – Regional Flavors
Tues. June 14 – Thurs. June 16  OR  Tues. July 19 – Thurs. July 21
10:00AM – 2:00PM

Junior Chefs will take a 3 day culinary journey across America as they explore and learn different regional cuisines. Day 1 features Classic Flavors of the American South, Day 2 teaches Tex-Mex and New Mexican cuisine. The last day focuses on bread-making and press-grilled sandwiches, showcasing sandwich styles unique to various cuisines. This class is taught by Executive Chef Richard McPeake

3-Day Cooking Camp: Kids Cook Favorite Movie Menus
Tues. June 21 – Thurs. June 23
10:00AM – 2:00PM

It’s “lights, camera, cooking!” as the Junior Chefs get loads of hands-on time with Chef Jill while learning important culinary skills. They’ll get their hands in the action and work in teams as they learn to craft tasty Columbian dishes inspired by Encanto and visit Diagon Alley for some Potter World treats. They’ll also learn baking techniques and try their hand at making cupcakes, and then learning to decorate them to reflect MARVEL-ous superheroes. 

3-Day Cooking Camp: Tasty Kitchen Science Camp
Tues. July 12 – Thurs. July 14
10:00AM – 2:00PM

This camp not only teaches Junior Chefs how to cook, but also why things happen the way they do! Professor Lisa Sharpe Elles, an actual KU chemistry professor, teaches this popular class. Kids will make pizza dough that rises and peanut brittle that foams. Plus, they will test the effect of acids in fresh homemade cheese and even make fluffy marshmallows and more! This is great for curious young chefs!

3-Day Cooking Camp: Kids Cook Across America
Tues. July 26 – Thurs. July 28
10:00AM – 2:00PM

Once you register your young chefs for this interactive 3-Day cooking camp, you’ll be able to relax knowing they’ll be well educated and have fun on our culinary trip across America! Experienced instructor, Bruce Campbell, will lead these informative cooking classes as they learn to cook 3 uniquely different regional cuisines – New Orleans Cajun & Creole, a taste of Hawaii, and some finger lickin’ Kansas City Barbecue favorites!
