CCKC Concludes Successful “Pay What You Like” Food Program
OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Culinary Center of Kansas City’s “Pay What You Like” lasagna program wrapped up this week, with 62 families picking up freshly-made lasagnas starting Monday, Nov. 25.
The community response exceeded expectations. Our neighbors reserved all the available lasagnas within a few days of the program’s launch in early November, and many chose to pay extra—contributing more than their share so that others facing hardship could pay just $1 for a homemade family meal.
“We’re grateful to everyone who participated,” said Heather DeFeo Minor, General Manager of The Culinary Center. “Seeing people pay it forward so generously reminded us what makes Kansas City such a special community. These lasagnas went to families who really needed them, and that’s exactly what we hoped would happen.”
The program was launched in response to the recent government shutdown that left some local families struggling with benefit interruptions. Each lasagna served four people and was prepared with the same quality ingredients used in The Culinary Center’s regular cooking classes.
The overwhelming community support has The Culinary Center considering offering the program again should the need arise. Those interested in staying informed about future community initiatives can visit kcculinary.com or call 913-341-4455.
