An example of one way we have woven our commitment to community into our business model is through one of our most popular interactive cooking experiences: All Hands For Hunger. This model is a cooking class with a community service purpose where folks come in and cook a freezer full of food to donate to local charities. Since 2009, this model has provided literally thousands of meals to the needy in our community. We are very proud of these efforts.
Community
Through food and education, we’re committed to nourishing and strengthening our Kansas City community.

Committed to giving back
Since our founding 29 years ago, The Culinary Center of Kansas City has been committed to giving back to our community. We believe strongly that philanthropy is an integral part of running any business. It’s who we are. As dedicated and proud citizens of Overland Park and the greater Kansas City area, we work every day to support individuals and community organizations that:
- Help ensure that economically challenged individuals and families in our area have access to nutritious food
- Train our team members to build confidence in the kitchen as employees in the culinary industry
- Educate the public about healthy eating habits and nutrition
- Assist older adults in staying active and connected with their community in order to help ensure a continued rich quality of life
- Advocate for sustainable agriculture, ecologically sustainable cooking and waste management practices like composting, and the preservation of culinary traditions
- Educate and inspire young people in the kitchen so that we are nurturing and developing the culinary arts for the next generation

Overland Park Farmer’s Market
Another example of our deep commitment to our local community is our classes that highlight our collaboration with the Overland Park Farmer’s Market, one of the biggest and best farmer’s markets in the country. For 40 years, vendors have been providing farm-to-table food at this vibrant public gathering place right outside our front door. The OP Farmer’s Market is a constant source of inspiration for us because it builds community pride and spirit by bringing together people of all ages and interests. During Farmers Market classes, we take our guests to the stalls and educate them on how to select the ripest, highest-quality vegetables and other fresh ingredients. After sourcing the ingredients, we return with our guests to our kitchens and prepare fresh, delicious meals they can easily duplicate at home.
