Join Our Volunteer Foodie Crew

Volunteer FoodieDo you like to cook?  Do you have drawers full of kitchen gadgets?  Do you like to hang out with fun “foodies”?  Do you wait by your computer for our new classes to go online?  If you answered an enthusiastic “Yes!” to any of these, then you might make a great addition to our Volunteer Foodie Crew.  We are always looking for positive people who share our passion for food, cooking and entertaining!

If you can say yes to each of the following prerequisites, you might be a perfect addition to our Volunteer Foodie Crew:

  • You love cooking and are enthusiastic to learn more about the culinary arts
  • You like people (a/k/a you have great customer service skills)
  • You’re willing to help where needed, from setting up chairs to helping the instructor cook to clearing tables and work stations
  • You’re cool with being on your feet for 3-4 hours at a time
  • You have taken at least (3) three cooking classes at The Culinary Center of Kansas City

Here are some things you will need to know.  Each shift is different depending on the class topic, instructor and class style (e.g. hands-on, demonstration only, Professional Culinary Arts Class, weekend entertainment style class, etc.)  You could be doing anything from helping the official Class Assistant greet students to prepping food at the direction of the instructor to fetching ingredients from our pantry.  You will often get to taste the fabulous dishes the instructor is teaching and, of course, you will take a recipe booklet home at the end of the class.  However, it’s not all fun and frosting or just a clever way to attend a cooking class for free.  Our Volunteer Foodie Crew also assists with moving tables, re-setting for the next class and assisting with clean-up (but note that we have an official staff of Wizards (a/k/a cleaning crew) that takes over after the initial cleanup is completed).

Once you are admitted as a full-fledged member of our Volunteer Foodie Crew, you will receive periodic email requests to assist in various classes. All you have to do at that time is respond to that email and Vicky Lara, our Chicana in Charge and Volunteer Coordinator, will let you know if you have been chosen.  Note to your bad self: The more you make yourself available and say “Yes, I’ll be there!” the more you’ll be asked to assist.  And keep in mind that we often hire staff positions from this astute and experienced group of Volunteer Foodie Crew members.  Just sayin’…

Fill out the form below to let us know you’re interested in being part of our Volunteer Foodie Crew, and let the foodie adventure begin! (Serious inquiries only, please.)
